Restore Plus Program
Patient Diagnosis
Research has consistently demonstrated that endurance training by seniors or patients recovering from surgery or injuries can vastly improve strength and ability to perform daily tasks. In recent years, both The New England Journal of Medicine and The Journal of the American Medical Association have published studies that support the use of high-resistance weight-training to improve the mobility of the elderly.
The Laurels’ Restore Plus Program uses sophisticated weight-training equipment specifically designed for use by weakened or elderly individuals during an extended stay.
Program Design
The Restore Plus Program is initiated upon approval from the patient’s physician and successful completion of the therapy screening protocol. An occupational or physical therapist assesses the patient and establishes the appropriate program for that person.
The weight-training equipment promotes utilization of the muscle groups required for moving from sitting to standing, walking and maintaining balance. Additional exercises and equipment are used to improve the individual’s cardiovascular endurance for daily tasks.
The Restore Plus equipment is also used within the therapy programs for short-term skilled and sub-acute patients. Individuals admitted to The Laurels’ Restore Plus Program frequently benefit from the strengthening and endurance exercise options available with the Restore Plus equipment.
The program is performed under the constant supervision of a restorative aide specifically trained by a licensed physical or occupational therapist in the use of the equipment and the specific program. Ongoing records are maintained to monitor the patient’s progress with the program. The patient remains in the program as long as he or she continues to show progress.
Quality of life for all residents is a top priority at The Laurels. The Restore Plus Program is one example of how The Laurels takes extra steps to foster the wellness and function of our guests.
